We use a mixture of sand and unamended topsoil her for Mel as she's the only one (so far) that has exhibited eggs at all. The only thing you have to be prepared for is the Myka might rather lay her eggs in your bedroom under a pillow case....;)
Mel has never actually "used" her box for anything other than to poop in. I tend to keep a close eye on her once I notice that she's started laying and she's gotten to the point that she actually lifts her butt and allows me to take the eggs as they come. Of course, all of this usually takes place on the top shelf of her enclosure - which makes it very convenient for me. Think I ought to thank her for that....;)
