Which would you say is more important to a three foot iggie? Both measurements are extremely important because we are talking of a young adult.

When an iguana reaches the 3 foot mark, it HAS TO be housed in an adult-sized enclosure.

And it's never only one side being the more important one. It's all 3!!!

The height must be a minimun of 6 feet, because they are arboreal animals.
The length just as long, because it will grow to 4.5-5+ feet.
And the depth at least 4 feet deep beacuse the animal has to be able to move around.

Now, don't think that just because u instead choose to get a juvenile u invest in a smaller enclosure. It will grow, you can't stunt them, and eventually you'll have to spend more money building a bigger one. So go big the first time.

Even though the rule of thumb is 6x6x4, it is preferred that a foot is added to each measurement. Of course, the more the better.

These are not easy animals to keep, they are not cheap to maintain, and take a lot of time and care to properly keep.
Think about it.

At 3 feet, the iguana can already be classified as a young adult. At 4 feet, it is an adult. Females average 4-4.5 feet, while males can easily reach the 6 foot mark. A six foot male will require an 8x8x5 enclosure.

If u live somewhere where it is warm all year round, you're in luck! An outdoor enclosure can be made cheap, and quiet eye-candy, as well as enormous, since u can build it in your back yard. If not, u'll have to build it in ur house somewhere.

I'm not trying to put u off into geting the animal, I am though giving a realistic view of the amount of money, care, and space these animals need.

Lastly, I am very glad to hear you guys are thinking of ADOPTING one from a rescue. Good luck, think about it well, and let us know how things turn out.
