: I contacted Big Ig Supply concerning their packaged fresh vegan salad and asked for a sample. For a nominal shipping fee I received a package of each salad, greens and veggies. My shipment sat in the mailbox for an entire afternoon in subzero temps because I was at a herp show all day. This may have affected the quality of the greens since they looked a little dark. I put it in the fridge to try the next day. The foods are packaged tightly vacuum packed in heavy plastic bags. I'm not sure if this is usual but the labels and other information were emailed to me. Here's what I found.
:What exactly are the contents of the salad? Label stated that greens included Collards and Cilantro..subject to change due to availability and freshness. Veggies included butternut and summer squash, pea pods, carrot and wax beans.
:How fresh is it? The food seemed very fresh upon opening the packages the following day, even the greens. It felt similar to my own salads altho the shred is finer on the greens.
:Does it have any unpleasant smells? (indicating the beginning of decay + unfresh ingredients) No odor of spoilage. There was a distictive odor (not unpleasant) to the greens but the ingredient label said that it included cilantro and this is what I was smelling. Veggies smelled and looked fresh and crisp.
:What is your opinion of service? No complaints.
:What is your personal opinion on the quality of the salad? Surprisingly, the salad passed my expectations. I will not feed my lizards anything that I wouldn't eat myself. I wash and peel all of my veggies and cut the thick stems from my greens. When I visually observed that there was nothing in the foods that I wouldn't give to my lizards I let them complete the testing. All lizards offered the salad ate it readily and immediately. Even MiMi, my picky Cyclura hybrid female, gave it a taste test and ate several large mouthfuls. Sophie chose it over her regular salad which was sitting a foot away. Even the baby torts tried it and seemed to enjoy it.
: So, my curiosity is sated. Economically, considering how many animals that I feed, I don't know if it's a viable choice. I'd have to do some serious math to figure it out. For anyone with just one or two lizards to feed and either time constraints or unavailability of good food items it may be just the ticket. Let's see what Double D's opinions are.
