...from what you say, I would gather that the animal has been abused somewhat severely and also probably feels relatively sick, as grease and animal protein are really difficult on a vegetarian animal's digestive system! If it is an iguana, and it sounds like it, it needs to be treated like one. This means lots of light, fresh veggies, and more or less following the advice that the people on this forum have very kindly taken the time to give you. Iguanas are relatively peaceful, vegetarian animals and need to be cared for accordingly. They are not nocturnal! If it is aggressive towards you and shies away from both you and the light, it is because it is terrified, not because it likes being shut up in a tiny closet in the dark all the time.
As for the hamburgers, look at it this way... A 200 pound human who eats junk food and nothing but junk food every day is more or less doomed to a death from clogged arteries, a heart attack, or failure of the digestive system. This animal probably weighs between 1 and 5 pounds and isn't even meant to eat meat at all, let alone fried foods! Logically speaking, how long would you expect its little heart to last?
Please do the right thing and either change the animal's living conditions drastically or surrender it to someone who is willing to take the time. Thanks for a patient ear,
-Lily and Phil
p.s. here is a picture of Phil at 1 year, 4 months and his enclosure. Notice the amount of climbing space available to him and also how well-lit it is. He prefers to sit as close to his basking lights as possible. Also, if your critter is not this green, that does not mean he/she is not an iguana. When Phil first came to me as a little iglet, he was much browner. In juveniles, this is a sign of illness or poor lighting and diet.
