I totally agree with you. I asked the vet and he said those small yellow marks were nothing when I first took him in in Oct. He has other ones like that on his inner thigh that have not changed at all; if those had been contact burns, the skin would have come off of them by now I'm sure. Plus, there is nothing he can be burning himself on in the enclosure he has at home. No metal, no hot rocks, not even a heating pad. If the heat was too hot from up above & outside of his enclosure, wouldn't the top of him have the thermal burns if he has no material that gets extra hot on his basking spot?
I showed the pics to a professor up at the University who works with and studies reptiles and he suggested it looked like a fungal or bacterial infection (but he also stated that he was not a vet...*smiles*)).
It has me definitely concerned though. I am keeping an eye on it everyday and I think I might put some anti-bacterial ointment on it until his next vet appointment in a week and a half. Supposedly by then, the skin should have peeled off the area and he should be started on oral antibiotics. If it still doesn't look much like a burn then, I'm going to have him do tests.
Would it require a blood test, or a sample of the skin to determine if it was fungal or bacterial in nature?
He's also not eating very much and I told the vet that. He didn't seem very concerned and said that Joey looks very happy and healthy and that he is just 'in season'.
I think if I don't get some specific answers soon, I will take Joey up to the reptile Vet at the University. He looks after the reptiles that they keep there and may have other ideas.
Kally & Joey

:If I remember correctly, when I looked through your photos you had a pic of Joey's belly, with a tiny white spot. I think the photo said October something? Now, in the most recent photos (December? A month later, at the least?) Joey has that big nasty patch, IN THE SAME AREA as the little white spot was. Did he get burned twice, or did the burn take over a month to fully show? Did the vet explain that?
