I always get nervous when an ig slows it's eating, wondering whether it's just hormones or if it's parasites or some other illness. Often, it turns out to be a gut parasite problem which if not corrected, would eventually lead to serious problems.
Dehydration is a side effect of eating less, since most igs don't drink enough to make up for the water lost to the uneaten food (which is mostly water). Dehydration leads to serious medical problems.
I say, a preemptive vet visit is always a good idea when eating markedly slows down.
