I commend your tremendous committment to your family and your pets. I must add tho that I think you are missing a vital point. Most people that adopt from a rescue are adopting a fully rehabbed and healthy pet. I know that I will not release an animal into an adoptive home unless it's healthy, eating, parasite free and has no serious ongoing health problems. One of my adopted lizards should not take any more time to care for than an animal purchased from a pet store. I feel just as committed to my rescues as you do to your family (my kids are grown and pretty self-sufficient). Someone needs to care for these creatures....feed them, love them, and help them heal. Then, if we're lucky, someone like stardust comes along who realizes that this is a gargantuan problem and wants to do something to help. I'm quite sure that even tho Monte had some health issues when he first came here that were treated successfully, with stardust's care and nurturing he will be with her for many happy years.

I've included one of my new most favorite photos. This is Kermit and Jimmie, both rescues. Kermit was attacked by another iguana and Jimmie suffered an attack by a cat. Both lizards are seriously disfigured, Jimmie even losing an eye. Both lizards suffered terribly and needlessly but had a will to survive. These two will be with me forever and I hope are happy. I know that they are both healthy. Would I ever consider adopting either of these lizards out? The answer is never. These two require ongoing daily care and monitoring. I'd have to meet someone pretty darn special to trust their care to. I know that there are people out there that meet that criteria but they are already swamped with rescue cases of their own.

I've tried to convince the local pet stores not to sell iguanas anymore. I've been successful with one, not the other. It's interesting that most of the surrender iguanas that I get in are from 100's of miles away. Two last night from a city 2 hours from here, and it's rumored that the woman who abandoned these 2 may have 5-6 more!! If she decides to surrender the remaining lizards I don't know what will become of them because I'm simply out of room. I hope that you can see my point and realize the need for adoption. This is just a view of things from my side of the fence. Thanks for listening.
