Yes... they can DEFINATELY vary the pressure they exert when they bite. My Buddy will very gently bite me when she wants attention and I'm ignoring her. She's only done it a few times, but the strangest was when she escaped from her cage while I was asleep. I woke up to a VERY cold ig gently biting my ear!
The only times she tries to bite me hard are when she for some reason thinks my hand is food (raspberry juice on fingers, whatever...). Then it's a pretty good bite, but she immediately withdraws when she realizes it's not food and doesn't hurt me. She's NEVER punctured the skin.
There was one time I was petting her and then stopped to type something and she crawled down my arm and very gently grabbed ahold of the finger I was petting her with, then let go... I started petting again, and I could have sworn I saw her grin! Well, I know I didn't, but she had that content look on her face.
