Consider yourself VERY LUCKY getting them at that price. You got an awesome deal. You are right, they last longer and give off heat and more UV light. Normally they are more expensive ($50 and sometimes more). The Zoomed 5.0 light is cheap online (sometimes $20 +shipping) and would be the minimal quality recommended in my opinion. It is a good solid light but should be changed every 6mos. as you mentioned.

I am using the T-Rex Active UV currently because at the time Zoomed didn't make the 100watt in the Powersun. This light has blown on me 2x in 7 months, but they are supposedly sending me my second replacement in the mail any day now (this time for free...last time pro-rated). I had to run out to a petstore to overpay for a Zoomed 5.0 light to tide my iguana over during the holdiays! When I get sick of returning my Active UV light, I will probably try a Powersun.

Your distance sounds good...with those lights you actually keep them further away than the 5.0s.

:first, since i started reading this forum a few days ago, seems like a lot of you use those reptisun 5.0 lights...i think those are the tube things that make uvb...but you have to use some other source with it to produce heat. am i mistaken?

:the things i use i *think* are called Power Sun. they are these 100 wat bulbs that screw into a standard fixture. the gal at the pet store said that they provide the uva and uvb light that the lizard needs, and heat at the same time.

:first, is the setup i have adequate? (the lizard *can* get pretty close to the light (like 10-12 inches if she wants to climb that high)). does provide the stuff the lizard needs?

:anyway, is one setup better than the other?

:and, i've also been reading (this seems to reference the reptisun 5.0 bulbs) that they have to be replaced every six months.

:normally, the bulbs i get are pretty damn expensive...like 30-37 bucks. what i do, is wait until the store has them on sale (20-30 bucks) and get several of them. i burn one, and save the rest until they are needed. well, if these things have an "expiration" date...should i not be doing that?
