Well, this is kind of a long story, but Lizard belonged to a friend of my boyfriend... A few years ago, my boyfriend (who was not my boyfriend yet) moved into town and shared an apartment with the guy who owned Lizard. Apparently Lizard had been dumped on him by someone else before this. Anyway, he wasn't taking very good care of Lizard, but for a long time Lizard seemed to be healthy anyway. Neither my boyfriend nor I knew anything about iguanas at the time.

My boyfriend paid more attention to Lizard and sort of worked on taming him. After I'd been around Lizard for awhile, I figured that he couldn't possibly be being fed correctly... he was only getting a couple of baby carrots every few days! I did some very basic research and went out and bought him some greens, which Lizard took to immediately. :-) Still, he had no UV and the humidity was too low. Lizard didn't really become mine until after we all moved into a new house... Lizard was obviously very sick after the move, and my boyfriend and I decided to bring him to a vet. His "owner" agreed to pay for 1/3 of the emergency vet visit, where Lizard was diagnosed with MBD. His "owner" also at that point decided he didn't want to deal with Lizard any more. With the vet's help I did a LOT of research on iguanas. Got him a proper UV light and basking light, and lots of fresh greens and veggies every day.

That was last April/May, and Lizard is doing TONS better now, and has turned into a real sweetie. :-) Oh, and that's the reason for his very stupid name, too. His previous owners never bothered to give him a name, so he was always just called "the lizard." Well, eventually his name just ended up being Lizard. I figured he'd had enough changes when I took over, and if he knew his name, I didn't want to go and change that on him too. Besides, he doesn't realize what a stupid name it is.

Sorry for rambling so long...

Kate
