:::what does gravid mean? is this another saying for pregnant? or does it just mean the ig has eggs?
:If a mammal is pregnant, she has been impregnated by a male. However, iguanas are like chickens in the respect that a chicken will lay eggs even without a rooster. Gravid means she may,(or may not), lay eggs. Whether they are fertile will depend if she has been mated with a male iguana. The care and preparations for the egg laying are exactly the same whether the eggs are fertile or not.
: my vet didn't use this terminology, who knows why or why not.
:The vet might not be a reptile vet. Call around and ask vets if they are reptile vets, or go to MK's site to find the link for reptile vets. Good luck!
: thanks tho, after the holidays, i'll see about getting her in one to see how things are going, if they are, and two to see if she's even still pregnant.
:XRays are the only 100% way to see if the eggs are resorbed. It is expensive though. Iggi's Xrays were $65. If there are any problems with eggs, the vet can take immediate action. This is the price we ig owners pay for having the more mild-mannered female iguanas.
