I kinda agree with Mr. D but I'll (and I'm sure a few others) do the best I can to answer your questions.
First thing, Diet: They are VEGGIETARIANS! Do NOT feed it crickets. I stress that because that is one of the main things pet stores tell people and it's proven to kill Igs slowly and painfully. Feed Greens such as Collards, Dandelions, Escrole, Endive, Mustard, turnip, etc. NO LETTUCE! Lettuce has no nutrition, It's basically Burger King, junk food. Veggies such as Squash (pretty much any kind), Bell peppers, Greens Beans, etc. And A LITTLE! Fruit as a treat here and there like Melon, Strawberries, Blueberries, Blackberries, etc. And That's just the basics. Diet should be 60% Greens, 30%-35% Veggies and about 5-10% fruit.
Caging: MINIMUM of 6'h,6'l, and 3'd. Bigger is ALWAYS better. I have heard of people giving entire ROOMS to their igs. Height is VERY important since Igs are Tree Climbers living most of their lives in the tops of trees in the wild.
Temps and Humidity: Basking spot should be about 100 Degrees F with an ambiant temp of in the 80s. Humidity should be a CONSTANT 50-70%.
Lighting: UVB bulbs (FLOURESANTS suchs as Reptisun 5.0 are the ONLY bulbs that have the UVB Igs Need) are Not an Option, they are a nessecity! The Release the UVB rays needs for the Igs to absorb the Calcium they need from their food.
I know I'm forgeting a LOT here but this should get you started. People please add to this or correct any mistaken Info. I hope your friend does right by this little guy. The book Mr. D suggested is an EXCELLENT Idea. Also "Iguanas For Dummies" is another book to get. Also give Her this website to ask questions. I'm sure most of us will do the best we can to help. PLEASE make it clear to her that if she is NOT capable of caring for this animal to PLEASE find someone that can instead of Making it suffer a Horrible, painful death. And yes, adult male Igs (even some females) can be VERY aggresive and can cause damage that needs stitches. But that's part of owning the animal. Please let us know what She decides..... And hats off to you for helping her find out about Her New .... Pet..... :)
