Unless your friend is EXTREMELY interested in keeping this ig I would STRONGLY recommend that she find a way to graciously return it if at all possible. Proper husbandry practices with iguanas are an involved process with understandings of diet, heat, humidity, and ultraviolet light requirements being being mandatory for raising a healthy ig.
Proper husbandry for igs, and many other reptiles, can require investments of not only many hours per week, including daily cleaning and feeding, but also anywhere between $500 and $2000 +/- per year in equipment, housing and food. And then there are possible veterinary costs...
And you did hear correctly, igs do require large enclosures (6'x6'x3' MINIMUM) or, even better, entire rooms dedicated to properly house them. Adult iguanas, when properly cared for, WILL reach lengths upwards of 6' and weigh in at 20+#.
If your friend feels that she isn't ready for an ig but maybe interested at a later time I would highly recommend that she start her research now. James Hatfield's "Green Iguana: The Ultimate Owner's Manual" is one of the most comprehensive up to date books currently on the market. Returning the ig and getting a copy of his book may not be a bad idea in this case....
Good Luck....
