I guess the appropriate question would be this... Is it better to be born, suffer, starve, lose limbs, and die at an early age than it is to not be born at all? Isn't that just like a prolonged form of animal abortion? If the animal has no chance at a decent, pain-free life either way, then what's the difference? Hang out at Petco for half an hour or so. That changed my mind pretty quickly.
There are a lot of great iguana owners on this forum, and a lot of very healthy iguanas. But for each of us, there are dozens that are kept in tiny cages, lose limbs, get tail and mouth rot, are fed crickets or dog food, never see UV or the light of day, and die before they reach a year, which is about 1/20th of their life expectancy.
These are beautiful animals. Let's treat them like a rare commodity. Take care,
Lily
