I totally agree with both XTA and Mr. D.
the longer the tissue is left untreated the more the infection spreads and with how fast gangrene can spread, waiting til january can be definatly fatal. I believe you said it was on the tail and the vet will need to take at least an extra half an inch of clean tissue if not closer to an inch. I would suggest calling and getting in there ASAP.

:Xta brought up a good question.... If Ozzy was seen by a vet and the diagnosis IS gangrene why wasn't it taken care of either right then and there or within a matter of days as opposed to weeks? The longer the necrotic tissue is allowed to remain the more that will have to be removed. I may have missed it but I don't think you ever mentioned exactly where the gangrene is located...In any event, Ozzy should be looking at a fair amount of recovery time after surgery as well as a course of antibiotics.
:Who did you end up bringing Ozzy to for a vet?
