In Reply to: how does plexi-glass stand up to igs claws? posted by rjward97 on December 14, 2002 at 19:01:31:
:I am putting the finishing touches on my igs cage plans-will fianlly be able to finish it soon as I get my tax return : )
:I was going to use glass, but it is really heavy-especially in the sizes I need. So I am considering plexi-glass, although it is a little more expensive than glass at $5 a sq ft..
:I also have two young kids who enjoy banging onto Spike's cage and I think glass on the new cage will be a bad idea-the ig is used to them and they don't phase her/him at all, sometimes I think she/he likes to watch them.
:But Spike tends to claw at her door, mostly because she is mad she can't go outside-until next year when it warms up. How will the plexi-glass stand up to this? Will it scratch up easily?
:Thanx
:Roxanne
Yes, it will stand up, and no, it won't scratch. I built a 44"X24"X22" (about 100 galllons), enclosure for my iguana out of sheets of 97 mil plexiglass. It lasted until my iguana was old enough to be a free roamer.
