Salmonella is very difficult to detect. You can get your iguana tested hundreds of time, come back negative, and still have salmonella. All reptiles carry Salmonella, it is just a part of their hind-gut.
It is a really big issue with babies and the elderly, or anyone with a comprimised immune system. You could be a stickler about hygeine and maintain a strict regimen of sterilization, or you could look into someone watching your iguana for you while the baby is still very young. If worst comes to worst and you are very worried about your child, then many people put their iguana's up for adoption.
