In Reply to: Have a good thought today for little pooper... posted by PHFaust on December 10, 2002 at 23:32:14:
Hearing this breaks my heart. I am a really sensitive person when it comes from animals and this brought tears to my eyes. I agree that karma has a wonderful way of working. It's just a shame that such a precious little thing had to suffer. At least she is in a much better place where she can find peace.
:last evening I was called to check out an iguana at the local humane society. They call me in to sex iguanas, look at their general visual health to see if they are ok, simply because they do not know better. Usually I can help list the iguanas or transfer them to foster care. I also provide food and supplements, supplies as needed if I cant place them somewhere. My way of volunteering. Sometimes its tragic, but usually its just slight MBD. I think I saw the worst case of abuse ever last evening. Im a pretty tough as nails type of person until it comes to animals. I cried a quite a bit last evening. It was not pretty. I did get one polaroid, but have not as yet scanned it in.
:I have seen a lot... When 5 humane societies call you the Iguana lady, you see the worst... This was horrid... I looked into the cage from a few feet away and saw a very bloated female. I wish that was the last look I had of this girl... as I got closer I saw that she was missing many toes with open festering wounds where the nubs were. The spines on the back were missing and also had open festering flesh the length of the spine. The tail was zigzaged from the MBD. She had the pop-eye for arms. As I started looking close I began to see more open festering sores. On the belly there were a two larger wounds that were oddly shaped. I wish I never would have asked the next question, but alas I follow a routine. "did the owners reliquish any supplies" In fact they did and one of the supplies was a hot rock. On the hot rock, were blacked patterns that matched the belly wounds. This poor thing could barely lift its body. The worst part is usually with iguanas like this the eyes show that it is in bad shape. This one had such bright interested eyes... Needless to say pooper went to the bridge today... I did give pooper a good cuddle last evening, I held her and rocked with her for a bit... I think her wounds did ruin one of my good shirts, but oh well... She did get comfort and love. Tonight when you tuck your babies in, give them an extra kiss for this one that had such pain. She actually is the first iguana to haunt my thoughts. I just needed to vent... So please forgive me... But I did need to post this somewhere...
