In my experience, the introduction process is longer than simply picking up the ig and showing him the other animal. I had a rescue juvie ig for a several months, untill he got well enough to go to a new home. The first few times Kaaz saw him, Higgi was in danger of being eaten. Kaaz was rather upset by this new intruder, and would run up to higgi, tongue flick at him a few times, then would open his mouth really wide and attempt to grab him.
Introduction took about three weeks, and went the same way as introducing two new cats. First, I kept the two separated, out of sight, and switched them around periodicaly so that they would get used to each other's scent in their personal space. Then, I let them see one another through a window, when Kaaz was outdoors and Higgi inside. After Kaaz got used to seeing Higgi, and stopped aggressive displaying, I began to let them out in the same room. Kaaz would sit on one couch and Higgi would be basking all the way across the room, on a chair. I watched them like a hawk, and moved to separate them if Kaaz decided to get to Higgi. Eventualy I let them be closer and closer to each other, and after several days of this, they could sit on the oposite sides of the couch without problems. I let Kaaz walk up and tongue-flick at Higgi after a while, and Kaaz behaved wonderfully. He checked out Higgi for about a minute, and from then on proceded to ignore him completely. I supervised them during the next few encounters, but eventualy I'd let them out together without supervision. They even shared the same basking spots.
