Thanks Meliss! We hung a towel from his basking platform today, so he had a board on one side, log on another, and a towel on a third. According to my friend he hasn't jumped since that night... However he still prefers climbing the screen instead of the logs to get to the platform.
:Igs can jump/drop from 6 ft or so onto a surprisingly hard surface and generally come out okay. But there are some risks involved, especially for igs who have undiagnosed (and diagnosed!) metabolic bone disease, and gravid females.
:Since there are no rope or fabric ladders or climbers in the wild, captive igs often benefit (as do their keepers' nerves) from being introduced to the climbers provided for them. The introduction can be as simple as just "hanging" them on the climber, or taking the time to careful "walk" them up the climber (taking especial care to not accidentally rip out their claws by "walking" them too quickly). Once they get it, they get it. That doesn't mean they won't launch themselves into space on occasion, but at least flight won't be their normal method of climbing and descending. ;)
