Besides detecting the higher mammalian body heat, diurnal reptiles who are preyed upon by nocturnal predators, as iguanas are, may also be sensitive to air currents within close proximity. When sleeping alone (without a group of other igs one or more of whom may signal an alert when something approaches), while they do sleep, they are also probably on alert for things that might pose a problem for them.
I find that green iguanas sleep differently than do Cyclura, who have few if any natural nocturnal predators. My greens always respond when I touch them at night once they've been sleeping for several hours, while the Cyclura, shows no response or awareness of me at all (in fact, the term dead meat comes to mind... ;).
