:My sister has an iguana and shes got him in a cage but i think the cage is getting a little too small for her right now so I want to get my sister a new cage as a gift.
How nice!
Please see my article on Iguana Age and Expected Size and the Basic Cage Design Problems article linked to it. The most common problems are building the enclosure too small (for the iguana as is, or as it will be as it continues its growth) and building the wrong dimensions.
A 6 ft wide (side to side) enclosure is too small for a 6 ft long iguana. It's too small for a 5 ft long iguana. If those dimensions were okay for 5-6 ft igs, well, then, we wouldn't need ceilings higher than 6 ft since most of us are 6 ft tall or less. :)
You won't find an enclosure the proper size for an adult iguana at the pet stores. There are a few people building them; most, however, design and build their own, or transistion their growing iguana from being fully enclosed to "free roaming" (which isn't as easy as it sounds. ;) You'll find some links to large enclosure builders and to pictures and descriptions of ones build by ig keepers at my Cage Designs page.
You might also want to read my Iguana Care, Feeding & Socialization article to really get a feel for what an iguana needs by way of equipment, space use and furnishings.
Let us know how it goes!
