:I heard that putting vaseline on Kira's spikes will help all the old shed come off
For retained shed, the best thing is long daily soaks in warm water. For really stubborn retained shed, you need to work a little harder. For spikes, rub a little mineral oil into the base of the still wet spikes as soon as you take the iguana from the bath. This will help trap the moisture already there and give it more time to work its way up between the layers of skin. Mineral oil is preferable to cooking oils like olive as it won't go rancid in the warm ig environment. Vaseline is too gunky and won't easily wash/wear off as will mineral oil in the following day's bath.
You'll find more information on dealing with normal and problem shedding in my Reptile Skin Shedding article.
