Phantoms will know who i am talking about if he hovers this forum at all, so please NO NAMES!
There is a HUGE reptile pet store here in wisconsin that claims to be the best of all reptile pet stores. Anyhow, I was in there one day and there was a "special" yellow phase 'breeding' pair of iguanas being sold. The owner was bragging how this was a special import blah blah blah. Not sure how many have seen extremely emaciated, on the verge of death, power fed iguanas, but some I have gotten as rescues have looked just like this. These iguanas were sooooooo skinny, you could see the outline of EACH AND EVERY BONE and they were a pale yellow green. While the owner talked a lady into making the purchase i TRIED to talk her out of it. I failed. So in the lot, I gave her a business card for a vet, my card and care info. I think it was right around 1 week later she called. Her 300$ yellow phase died.
Unfortunately reptiles are still looked at as a craze pet. They are also not given proper respect by health authorities in many places. Unless animal control is experienced in reptile care, they are gonna believe the pet store owner over some 19 year old kid (like i was at the time). But treatment as described above is done to other animals as well. That is kinda where we come in. Creepy employees aside, let the owner of the store know you appreciate that they are at least trying to help the situation and refer people to this store. Im sure you do this XTA, because well, i kinda cant see you not. ;) but maybe some newer folks to the forum will read this and help with this too.
Getting off my soap box cause Im just plain tired
Cindy :)
