It does take some doing to get them settled down sometimes. But don't give up! Keep in mind that what you are dealing with is a wild animal in fear for it's life from a giant creature which keeps invading its territory. Since it can't get away it feels that it has no choice but to defend itself. By your backing off and not handling him you reinforce the behavior. Since there is a fear display when you walk by, try spending time close to the cage where the Ig can see you. Sit in front of the cage and read a book or whatever. Just something where the ig can watch you and get used to seeing you there. Try a heavy sweatshirt to protect your arms and try and see if you can't get his nail tips trimmed. The key is to not allow the ig to be the boss. The more you handle the more relaxed around you he will be. But you have to handle him. If you don't it will not only never stop, it will get worse
