It's in their nature. You can try to encourage him to go somewhere else like take him in the bathtub (luke warm water) every day and he'll start going then. Or..get him another water container for pooping. They like routine so your only hope is to change his routine to something else or he will continue this. It certainly is no good that he is going in his food dish.
