:She was crossing a hay field beside the river, which is right beside my house while the farmers were haying. They didn't see her in the tall grass, and accidently went right over her. She went right through the haying machine, so she didn't suffer much...there was just enough of her shell still intact for me to tell it was her. I cried so much! I was devestated!! I feel a little better knowing that I have her babies though, considering that 80% of snapping turtle eggs are preyed upon by racoons and skunks, and the remaining 20% rarely even make it to the water's edge! So maybe just one of her forty babies will grow up to be as big and as beautiful as she was! I can only hope....
