Basically I wanted to know from those of you who keep your iguanas in an enclosed habitat(wood and glass type). I was wondering for those of you who have an insulated enclosure, does the ambient room temperature OUTSIDE the enclosure get hot or does it stay the same? I was told that even by INSULATING the enclosure, it will still make whatever room the enclosure is in hot. Im kOnFUuZZEDD???!!
Now I want to know about those who use open air enclosures(hardware cloth, etc.). I made one for Skitz, and found it got uncomfortably warm(like 90 degrees ambient most of the time)in my room. I was using a ceramic heat emmitter at the time. I am now planning on building an enclosure, but one that is not enclosed. Confused yet? LOL.
Its like this. I was gonna take a nice big 'ol piece of plywood(5' X 40" X ?"), and treat it as if I was building the floor to an enclosure(paint it, seal it, vinyl it). However, Instead of building walls, I was just goin to attach ledges and limbs from the bottom to the wall, wall to wall, etc. I was also thinking about suspending a mercury vapour bulb over that, and what ever else I need. Basically my room is about 80 during the day. It usually doesn't get any colder than 70-75 at night. I think I can rig another CHE up, but have one with a lower wattage for night temps.Im curious as to how well this would work. I do prefer to build a true enclosed habitat, but my dad thinks it's going to catch fire and burn the house down. I agree it COULD happen, then again, built correctly, it SHOULDN'T.
ARRGGHH. Sorry for the long post. I'm just trying to get prepared without sacrificing TOO MUCH comfort. From what I know, Edgar is a free roamer already, and I don't want to deprive his little green heart of that just so Im a comfy temp when Im sitting here typing on the iguana forum LOL!! Anyways, thanx to all who reply, I hope I can get this figured out soon!!
Later Taters,
