In my country for dehydrated children the doctors recommend water with sugar and salt.2 parts of sugar and 1/2 part of salt. They dont recommend anymore those saline solutions sold on the drugstores because lots of problems happened to new born dehydrated children because the mothers were too nervous to correctly read the dosage and administration instruction and gave an overdose to their babies.
About baby animals I dont think water and sugar would be a good compromise because if it is really small and weak almost dieying(sp?) it can choke with the water. Only sugar! The salive is not important, the important thing is that under the tongue the body absorbs the sugar faster.

, OK. I *know* you only meant a small amount of sugar. I just wondered if even that small amount would dissolve enough to help. However, the comment about the sodium and potassium makes sense... Maybe a little sugar water given through a dropper would be a good compromise ;)

:I was once advised by a vet to use Gatorade for a dehydrated ig. I wonder what the potasium and sodium levels are in Gatorade? Maybe it is a viable option.

::HEY!You are not going to put a whole bowl of sugar under its tongue!Only enough to reanimate it!!
::I dont use Pedyalite I ve already said that on this FORUM!!Pedyalite is not good for small animals like baby turtles or small iguanas.Pedyalite is for human beings. The dose of potassium and sodium is toooo high for small animals!!Can cause heart attack and kidney failure. My opinion was confirmed by my father(he was a doctor) and by a few pharmacists.

:::I have been licked by dogs many times, and of course by my iguana too, and their tounges just don't seem as wet as a dog's. The pedialyte that was mentioned is similar to sugar water, but also has added electrolytes I think. I'm not saying the sugar isn't a good idea, just that it may not work as well as it does for mammals...

::::I used to do that to reanimate cold and weak new born dogs.It works!!Keep it quiet and warm.
