No seriously. The iguana that nailed me is extremely aggressive. He started this behaviour last september, and we thought it was just breeding season. But it lasted through late spring. Suddenly one day he was humbled by another large male iguana, and was nice. As soon as that male was out of the picture, he became extremely aggressive again.

As for warning signs, etc, well... He tries to bite anything that comes within about 5 feet of him. He walks on his tip toes, flattens his body out, circles you, tail whips, gapes, hisses, huffs and puffs. Usually they are just fakes though, and he does not follow through. Seldom does he actually leap at you!

I was cleaning a snake cage below the shelf he and many other iguanas bask on, and I reached for the water dish sitting on top of the snake cage. This put me within about 3 feet of the iguana's mouth, and he just flung his body at me.

As for cleaning - I immediately ran the wound under water for about 5 minutes, followed by flushing it out with about half a bottle of Hydrogen Peroxide. We then cut off the loose skin, put some triple antibiotic ointment on it, and bandaged it up with loose gauze and tape. This morning I took the bandage off, and will let it air out today, followed by more ointment and gauze tonight.

And what everyone wants to know! Did it hurt? No, actually, Iguana teeth are so sharp that the cut clean, and it goes numb almost immediately. It sure does bleed though!!!

:Because I have no experience with a bite (yet) were there any warning signs, what was the situation, and how did you clean your wound (or what did you say at the hospital). :) I think these are important things for an iguana owner to know and quite honestly, I don't know them.

:Thank you for posting your pictures, its always a nice reminder of the respect our sweet little pets should be given!

:Thanks,
:Shanna
