I believe that just letting your ig go where he wants will let him feel more at home outside of his enclosure. The main thing is that it needs to be a positive experience - you don't want a paranoid ig that sulks in his cage. The same is true with going to the bathroom. if you want him to poop in the tub, run some luke warm water in the tub to around 2 to 3 inches depth depending on the size of your ig- you don't want him to float, just be able to stand above the water. First thing in the morning is good after he is awake and warmed up. By gently placing him in the water, it is a positive experience and he will be ok with it. The warm water triggers pooping. Once he does this, drain the tub, wash him off with the same temp water ( I use a plastic pitcher with water in it ). Let him go back inside the room with his enclosure. This may take days, weeks or months of doing this for him to get the habit of going to the tub to poop (use a bath mat something so he can climb in and out).
One of my igs only took a couple of days to get the hang of it, another took over a year, just depends on the ig. Good luck
