In Reply to: HORSE PEOPLE!!! YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!! hehehe LOL :) posted by Heather on September 16, 2002 at 18:07:47:
Oh wow Heather, you are SO lucky! I LOVE friesians!! They have been my favorite horse since, well, since forever! Darktanion is AMAZING! And trick trained! I've always wanted to do that!
I rode really heavy for probably 2 years, 4 hours a day during the summer kinda thing, with a trainer (a family friend) coming to my house at least once a week. During that time, I rode a little fart box of a horse who was actually a pretty nice mover once he got down to work. He was one of those horses that looks really simple to ride, but gets increasingly difficult to ride as he figures you out more. But I guess that goes from him being a lesson horse when he was only 2 :S. He was a 15.1hh percheron/quarter horse, and totally MY horse. We had one of those weird relationships, where I knew he would never hurt me and I could safely go on him bridless and bareback, Parelli kinda thing. That only lasted for two years though, because I didn't own him...and his owner moved him to another barn :'( He is a completely different animal when he is with his owner...a complete pig, he won't even lead, it's sad to see him now. After he left, I got out of horses because I missed him so much and the other horses just weren't the same.
In our barn now, we've got a 10 year old Standardbred mare, who is a nut case, lol, but hey, she's a standardbred with strong racing blood lines. But I imagine you get what I'm talking about, seeing as you've got a thoroughbred! She is my sister's horse, and is only ridden by her. We also have a 4 year old Newfoundland pony, who is insanely cute, but, well, smarter than me ;) He gets the best of me quite a lot! Right now he is being trained to yard in our wood lot, which he loves!!
As far as the percherons go, they live where my old horse lives. There are 4 of them, one of which I'm in love with!! He is 4 years old, 17.2, and jet black! He's so sweet, and for some reason, his owners think that I should be the one to break him to ride. LOL, I don't think so!! He's already harness trained though, so even if I do decide to be the guinea pig, it won't be that hard!!
My parents are building a barn right now that can potentially fit in 10 good sized box stalls. I was told that I could get a horse, which I really want, or an iguana. I decided that a horse was just a hobby that I would enjoy for my last three years as home, whereas reptiles are my obsession and my experience with taking care of Myka will go on with me when I move out (as will she!). There is still a good chance for me to get a horse within the next year because hey, what good is such a huge barn with only two horses in it? ;)
Games are SO MUCH FUN!! Me and my old horse were so good at that! LOL (bragging much eh? ;)) We really were though...for some reason I can stay on bareback better than I could with a saddle, so we always did them bareback! Jumping, racing, you name it, so saddle! It was always funner that way anyway!
Whoa, I think that maybe I babbled just a tad ;) I'd LOVE to see pictures of your babies!! I can email you some of mine too if you like!
Nice to see another horse person on here! Talk to you again soon! Wendy :)
