I know we aren't talking about turtles, but we are talking about reptiles not needing companionship. Sure they don't need it, but I agree with Flavia, that reptiles can be happy with companionship. My oldest turtle whom I've had for 9 years has been all alone for those 9 years. I then got a baby hatchling which I waited a few months to introduce to the older turtle for concerns about size difference. But once introduced, the two clearly like having one another around, they swim side by side, and sometimes the little turtle hitches a ride on the bac of his older companion. So I agree that reptiles can enjoy the company of others.
