According to a friend at ZooMed the company has never paid out money to cover vet bills of ANY kind for faulty mercury vapor bulbs. In fact, they can't find any references to malfunctions of this magnitude at all. Also, according to the company, the outer envelope of the PowerSun bulb can "safely" be breached (i.e. broken)without causing any severe repercussions. According to the company this is due to the fact that the small amount of mercury vapor used in the bulb is contained within a smaller cylinder located within the larger glass envelope.
I also spoke with supervisors from both Deleware and Lehigh Department of Environmental Protection in Pennsylvania and neither they nor the mercury *specialists* on staff have any recollection of any repots coming in within the last two years of any issues concerning mercury vapor bulbs or their leakage. Similarly, local EPA and CDC, both of which would have been required to be notified, have no knowledge of any incidences either.
Anything else that I can use to try and get more info Eye? I'm being told that investigator's names would be helpful.....
