You came to the right place if you have questions. The people here are VERY knowledgeable and have helped me (also a newbie) a number of times. As far as flooring, In my cage I just use Newspaper. It's easy to fold up and clean. No "fall through" floor in mine. But I usally don't have to change the paper because He goes in the tubs when I'm giving him a bath.
As far as different subspieces??? I know the YOUNG igs are bright green but they get dark as they get older. How old is "she"? How big? Is it possible She's just a youngster?
If You don't get this one, check oiut the Green Iguana Socity. That's how I got My guy. I encourage You to read as much as possible here and listen to the advice people give you. Igs are wonderful critters but they are NOT beginners lizards. They have specific needs that, if not met, can cause them a LOT of problems. I hope this helps and I wish you the best.
:We fell completly in love with a one year old BRIGHT green female iguana yesterday, she was for adoption from a local iguana rescue. We have been making plans to build a large cage for her (assuming of course no one else adopts her before we can get the ideal setup) and have run across a question. What kind of floor would be good for a large cage? We are going to build her a 6' tall,4' long and 2' deep so it can barely fit through the door so we can take her outside in nice weather. We were wondering if a floor that fecal matter can fall through would be better or a solid, tile type floor would be better. She is already "potty trianed" and knows to go on paper.
:Any ideas? I am new to lizards but my boyfriend (we live together) has had a few and we are getting tips from the rescuer woman.
:One more thing, this iguana is really bright green and beautiful. Most of the other iguanas I have seen have been light green or brown. The rescuer said that she was a different subspecies of iguana and not a plain green iguana, are most of them the brown or light green? If she does get adopted, we will most likely find another one to adopt or buy from a breeder (not a pet store) but would like to find a bright one, are there many bright ones? Were would I look to find one? I've been searching but can't really find people who breed iguanas. Thanks so much!!!
