:Not sure if you realized it however, you participated in National Iguana Awareness day! And it sounds like you did a good job.

::A Local town had a big annual street fair today. My mom and I decided to go and we brought Smirnoff (My 7 y/o male Ig that's just under 4 ft long stl). We figured we'd have to bag him (put him in a king size pillow case we usually transport him in) after a few minutes but I wanted to try and socialize him on this beautiful, sunny, warm, day. Well, I had him on his hip leash and was carrying him around for about two hours with CROWDS ( up to 30! people around me to pet, touch and talk about him all at once!) of people around me wanting to pet him. HE WAS FINE!!! He just sat on my arm and took it all in! He only thrashed a couple times when I stood in one place for to long. After I started walking again, He settled right down. Mom and I were STUNED! Also, after People pet him (mostly kids with their parents watching) They wanted one. The parents would ask were they could get one and stuff like that. I asked them if they had ever done any research on them or if they ever had any kind of lizard before. Most of the time the answer was "no". So I started going off on My run down of the proper care of an Iguana and Most of the parents changed their minds REAL fast! Other people said they had had an Ig but it had died. I asked them the care they gave it (ie: food, caging, lighting, etc.) and usually I got ALL the wrong answers. One person answer they fed their ig ground beef and someone else said they caught bugs for it. I almost fell over both times! I "informed" them of what they should of done and the usual response was "I just did what the pet store told me". Again, I had a hard time keeping My balance. Anyway, ... OH! One girl and her mom came up and asked what kind of Lizard he was. I told them He's an Ig and they said they had one too. They got it at the Renisance(sp?) fair as a prize in a game and were told to feed they're "little dragon" bugs. I told them the correct info and also a couple sites to check out, Including this one. We'll see if they do.
::Anyway, sorry for the book. I'm just soo excited that Smirnoff was ssssooo well behaved and also that I felt like I helped save a few Baby Igs that might have gone to un-informed homes. I'm done babbling now. :)
