Not only is it not practical as the other respondants have mentioned, but the fact is, iguanas are not like mammal pets that you are more used to.
First, tree dwelling iguanas only go on to the ground if they really have to. Their arms and legs are designed for climbing and jumping, not walking down the street. So forcing the ig to walk down the street would not only produce stress but may cause injury.
Second, iguanas and other lizards ( except monitors ), cannot breath and walk(or run) at the same time. This is because of the way in which lizards move, the muscles used for walking/running are the same muscles used for breathing. This is why igs and other lizards walk/run then stop, catch their breath, then walk/run again. So in essence, your lizard is holding its breath while walking/running around.
So unless you plan on taking a couple of hours to go a few hundred feet, I wouldn't take your ig for a walk. Of course if your really wanted to get into the experience, you could hold your breath while you walked too, in addition to licking the sidewalk with your tongue and eating anything that would fit in your mouth. Uggh.
