Because you brought up Kidney Failure...Here is a pic of my Lizzy, I got her from people who raised her on Monkey Chow, she looked extremely huge and healthy 3 months before I got her, When they finally decided to give her to me she had decreased in size by half, she was skin and bones and severly dehydrated, I immediatly took her to my vet who confirmed kidney failure, she only lasted 6 months...in a matter of a couple months she went from an absolute beauty to an ugly monster. If your Guy has Kidney failure, my heart goes out to you, it is an ugly, sad death to watch.

:Godzilla is Gorgeous, exactly the way he is. He is definitely the King of the house. I love his photos! Don't worry, you'll raise your babies to be huge and beautiful.(and if you ever have to give medications to an angry, fighting ig, you're going to wish he was a lot smaller, LOL)

:I am far from expert... I didn't raise them from babies, so I am not the one to ask about size and growth. The only things I am good at are avoiding bites, and treating myself when I do get bitten. Oh yeah, I'm also good at keeping them separated! I adopted both of my igs when they were adults. Guy was 5 years old (he is 7 now) and Kaaz is probably a bit older, but smaller. Kaaz went through two homes, so I am not too sure of his age. He was given up because he got "extremely aggressive to anything living when in breeding season"(so they said)(definitely not true). He is wonderful, and very nice to me, if I don't force him to do anything unusual. He gets mad only if someone is aggressive with him - but he IS very frightening when he is mad. For some reason, he hates having his picture taken and wants to kill the camera. I dare you to try and pet him - see how many fingers you have left afterwards.

:By the way, his name used to be Iggy or Lizzy before I got him. Now, his proper royal name is Cassius, a Roman surname meaning vain or conceited, because he can sit and headbob in front of a mirror all day long. Kaaz is just the short form of Cassius.

:I think igs do most of their growing in the first 3 years, and slow WAY down when they get older. I think my big guys shed only once per year, or even less often. I keep them almost the same way you do, with access to the sunlight, outdoors. It's too dry out here though - Guy grew up roaming outside, so he is used to the weather, but Kaaz is having problems with his spines, tail tip, and parietal eye. I have to give him baths every day.

:I worry about Guy. He lived with cats, and he did eat catfood occasionaly. I think the extra protein is the reason he is so big. The main part of his diet was a variety of good leafy greens, but still... All I can do is make sure he drinks plenty of liquids every day, and wait to see what happens. I hope I never have to see him dying of kidney failure.
