I would recommend a Leopard Gecko.
I dunno if Uro's are best for a first-timer... Just their price would hint to me atleast an intermediate herper. They live long and have similar diets to iguana's [but can have crix once a week or every 2 or so]. Beardies might be ok... but they need about a 4'x4'x3' (LxWxH)enclosure when grown (which doesn't take too long!).
I'd go with a Leo as a beginner reptile. They're not too expensive, cute, don't get too big, and don't need that big of an enclosure. (a 20 gal tank would suffice, I think [please correct me if i'm wrong]).
