Junior's Latest Big Adventure (a bit long)

I had to post this as only other iguana owners can appreciate this situation.

Junior is my almost 5 year old male iguana. I had him in my small guestroom, but it was getting way too hot in the afternoons, so I moved him into a larger guestroom. I had just rescreened the windows with heavy-duty screening and of course, figured it was safe to leave a window open so Junior could get some fresh air and sunshine (you know where this is going, don't you...?).

He didn't break out of the screen - he pushed the whole screen window frame out!! I had to hammer it to get it in, so I figured there was no way Junior could muscle it out. It's the old wooden style frame.

I was sitting on my front porch that evening (didn't know he was gone yet) and heard a ruckus in the large maple tree that is in front. Some bird was not happy, but I figured at the time it was a squirrel or a raccoon.

I checked on the J-man before I went to bed, finding of course the screen out on the roof and no sign of the ig monster. Well, it's the middle of summer, I live in a small village with lush green wilds everywhere... I notified the neighborhood kids to keep their eyes open and figured that was that, because you know how hard it is to see an iguana when it doesn't want to be seen! I could only hope he lived a happy, brief time in the wild before the snow fell and did him in.

Well.... two and a half weeks later, I'm sitting on my front porch reading and I glance up in the maple tree and right in my sight line is the J-man! Laying on a big branch, arms back against his side, snoozing away, as relaxed as he could be.

Luckily my neighbor once had an iguana, and he's a very good sport, so he got the super tall extension ladder and got up in the branches and sort of shook and bothered Junior until he got back on the roof and I herded him into the room. This with most of the neighborhood looking on and someone actually taking photos.

Junior pooped out mostly undigested maple leaves for about a week but otherwise is none the worse for wear. He doesn't get an open window now, needless to say.
