It would be a good idea to sterilize the branch before using it for your lizard, but I didn't :S. I really wanted to, but I was pressed for time to get everything ready in time for Myka to arrive and the tree was just too big. When I steralize branches for my snake I pour boiling water over them. With the trees in Myka's enclosure I took a wire brush to it and rubbed it all over to get off all the loose pieces of bark that she could injest. It also helped to get the few bugs out. Seeing as it was an ironwood, not a lot of buggies lived in it (they don't seem to like ironwood for some reason!).
I got my branches in the summer just because that is when I needed them. If you wanted, it might be a good idea to get yours in the winter if you can't steralize it because there are fewer bugs? That's just a guess though! I don't think season matters though! Wendy :)
