Tooth decay is caused by bacteria eating through the tooth enamel. It isn't only sweets that are associated with tooth decay - grains and starches are, as well, so breads, pastas, etc., are a problem, too. Veggies are the most mouth-friendly in that they don't affect the alkaline/acid environment of the mouth as do the starches and refined sugars.
Since igs aren't brushing, flossing and using a fluoride- or alcohol-based mouth rinse every day, feeding them right will help keep the mouth healthy. If you do feed them bread or pasta, keep the amount low (which needs to be done anyway, given the other problems associated with grains) and follow with a veggie or fruit treat.
