Yes you can trim their nails. In fact it is a necessity if you are going to handle them without wearing a suit of chainmail armor. It's not that difficult once you get them used to the idea. It may be a handful at first however and I suggest that it be a 2 person job till he gets the idea that it isn't going to hurt him. Just trim the sharp clear tips off. If you cut too much you will draw blood and it will hurt them. Some claim that their climbing ability is reduced by trimming but I think that may be from people taking too much off at one time. Zok gets his nails done on a weekly basis and it doesn't keep him from climbing. If you don't trim them then handling will be painful for you and you will end up not handling which will make the ig more unmanageable and then you will handle even less so you end up in a self defeating circle.
