thanx for the reply but i ahve more to add now. i came home today at 4:30 and my iguana had not touched his food that i had put down for him in the morning before going to teach my class. when i came home he was sleeping! that isn`t normal is it? i mean, in 5 mos i have never seen my ig sleep im the middle of the afternoon. the other thing is that i wanted to let you know that the mustard collard and trunip greens are the basis for his salad, i forgot to include that in my post and the rest is addded for color and variety.i am worried about him. the extra suplements are because he is only 1 1.2 yrs old and also, was a rescue. his prvious owner fed him nothing but bok choi and lettuce. so i am kind of concerned about his calcium levels and other nutrients. i am getting worried that he is sick. he isn`t eating well, but he is still very active, alert and has a good color to him. he isn`t skinny, so maybe he is eating more than i think he is, i don`t know. the thing is, he has always been a picky eater. i think its because he was fed so much junk food that now he has bad eating habits. i don`t know, could he ahve an impaction? do you think i am just worrying too much??
: Meagan...I wouldn't give that other junk to my Igs. Like Hakan noted..eat or starve. Make sure youve got adequate temps & UVB first off...another thing is your salad..WAY TOO MUCH VARIETY!I would hold out for my favorites/be a picky eater too if I got all those choices at one time Give staples every day..Staple Iguana Food=dark leafy greens namely mustard greens& dandelion (higher calcium than collard) and/or collard, turnip greens etc. this should make up the MAJORITY of Igs salad. the variety(veggies & other goodies) offered should be only a very small part of the salad. Feo & Juana are chowhounds..and fed maybe 90% mustard & collards & 10% sprinkles of veggies & fruit or alfalfa pellets (soy=protein)
: I also give them whole wheat bread (thiamine) once in a while especially if Ive given them frozen to thawed food .(IMNSHO..ixnay on the supplements..unless ya got a gravid ig or a youngster...most igs first off don't need it, another reason for the pet companies to make a buck , and most igs hate the taste) An Iguana diet is not a rocket science..I don't know why we make it one tho. Just follow general guidelines of Iguana care...namely MK salad/ Jen Swofford yes even Kevin Egan's site (even tho alot of his information is outdated!) pay close attention to what they recommend as STAPLE iguana food...the rest is gravy(variety). Relax! & enjoy meagan momma!.Sometimes I think my iguanas were so high strung because I was so *()$#)@ neurotic when I first got them. They mellow with age thank god..like all of us..now they're zoners="bask & zone out", kinda like me before that first cup of coffee in the morning!
: Am I making any sense? I gotta get a day job!
