Hi!
Six hours, $35 and who knows how many sore muscles later, I have the egg-box done! Thanks to all the articles I found on the internet and on iguana forum, I constructed it this afternoon. Bought a 40 gallon Rubbermaid Tough storage container, 200 pound of sand, huge bag of spaghnum peatmoss, and a 6" ribbed drainage pipe. Because of the way her cage is constructed, I had to sit the container upright and slant the hose in from one of her perches. It was quite elaborate, even covered the rough edges of pipe with duct tape so she wouldn't cut herself--got the whole thing together and she was too big to get down the pipe! Darned near died. So off came the pipe and now I have the huge storage container with a hole cut in the top. Put her down the hole and haven't seen her since. Did take a peek with a flashlight and she was digging to China--had gone actually excavated a 9" deep hole. After watching her climb all over her cage today while I was working, including straight up the sides of her 6' X 6' X 2 1/2' cage, I'm not worried how she'll get out of the container. So here I am, exhausted and enjoying a glass of sherry! Thanks to all of you who answered my numerous postings. I'll keep you updated as things progress. I am going to call a new vet on Monday. Did see the vet lists--there is one in State College, PA--about 2 hours from my home (near Harrisburg, PA). If anyone knows of a great herp vet near me, please, please let me know. Re: force feeding. I used a syringe and she was most cooperative. I put the end in her mouth and gave her a little squirt. I didn't force her but decided to back off on this after reading all the good advise I have received. Thank you one and all. I don't leave food in her cage because I am gone all day so I know that she isn't eating at all because I feed her on the kitchen counter (on newspapers) when I get home each night. She will eat a grape or two and several nights, before I made up the green goop, I hid some vitamins and minerals in a grape and she ate it. I wish you could meet her. She is 7 1/4 pounds with her tail resting on the table, 46" (is supposed to be 55" but lost 9" off her tail) and is beautiful! She is the sweetest thing--very docile and gentle. Each night I peel an orange and I get 1/2 of each slice, she gets 1/4,and the two dogs take turns getting the other 1/4. If I am too slow peeling the orange, she actually taps me on the shoulder! Several times she even climbed down into my lap to get at the orange. Well, I don't want to make this too long. It is so heart-warming to know that you are out there. Bless you!
