The tail may be ok or it could have fungus or dry gangerine. I had three males who broke tails before I got them. One stray had a dry black section of taill that the vet thought would fall off. It filled out and grew back black.

If the tail doesn't get worse, it is probably ok. If the suspect part starts to move up the tail, find a vet.
