The first things I did when I rescued mine was I didnt try to hold him for at least a month. I would just let him stay in his cage and I would talk to him get him used to me going around him then I would put food on his tray then reach in a touch him while he was eating. Now he loves that part and looks like he expects it (I do use gloves, big leater type welding gloves, I have seen the pics I dont like stitches)LoL anyway he likes that now he closes his eyes and even pushes twords me like to say yeah thats the spot. I did that for a few months petting his whole body under his neck his sides even slipped fingers under his belly and rubbed real good upwards so he would get used to the lifting. The next few steps I would take were puting one hand under him and petting with the other next thing we just started to pick him up for short periods now he likes being held again.
The main thing here is I didnt rush him in any way and gained the trust that I was not going to harm him. I dont believe in all this Alfa stuff show em whose boss. Thats just intimidation not trust and respect. One thing to always remember is that this is a wild animal and you can never fully tame them if they ever feel a threat for any reason they are going to protect themselves. All you can do is show your respect for him and he will show you that he trust you.
