I believe iguanas can sense your fear and will mess with you that way. I have a friend that is terrified of my iguana...and my iguana will taunt my friend the whole time..swelling up, hissing, watching, jumping off his shelf just to tourment my friend. He knows he is more dominant then my friend and has no problem explioting it. On the other hand...all he sees is some big head rising up at him...which probably makes him a bit nervous. My suggestion...feed it its favorite food by hand...soon enough he may crawl on you to get the food. You can actually just tease it with the food to come onto your arm. This may not be a textbook idea, but after 5 months...what do you have to lose. good luck.

:I am in love with my friends iguana and have been trying to bond with him for 5 months now. He is tame with the owner but nobody else.

:For five months now I have been trying to get closer to him. I have made little progress. In the beginning, if he was in his cage he would try and whip me when I was standing by the cage, he does not do that anymore. He now lets me crawl in the bottom of the cage and clean it, but he won't let me stand up in the cage. He lets me put my arm in the cage to give him food or mist him. He lets me touch him if the owner touches him first and the iguana closes it's eyes and I start to touch him. Ha Ha, but it won't let me touch him on my own. I also spend time by him and talk to him. I made him a pillow but he is just knocking that down. He headbobs at me and I headbob right back. He does not try and whip me anymore but he will give me a warning and flop his tail up and down which says to me, "Okay I have had enough, leave me alone". So then I do, which I have read that I should not let him show me who is boss, but to tell the truth I am scared to get whipped. Plus, I do not want to stress him out at all.

:Is there anything else I can do? Or should I stop trying. I know this takes time but I do not know what would be the next step. Any suggestions would help, thanks
