I don't know if you want to put it in the cage though.... for one thing, they are outdoor plants..do well with lots of sun. And, you are right that he will trash it! You may want to plant it outside and use as a continual food source! Then, put fake plants inside his cage (make sure they are well made and the leaves don't come off easily)
