My iguana was loose since he was a little baby. But you are right anyway xta. He disappeared for 5 days. So if I was to do it again...I would cage him for a few months. And as iz and xta say...adopt a rescue...I'm sure your adopted iguana will give you alot of appreciation for make his life a better life.

:As iZ's mom said, if you are willing to be there for the long haul, then I would start looking for rescues. One in your area would be the best, but you can find some online that will ship to the right home. Either way, most of these rescuers have males and females, young and old. You can find out the general personality type too. Go more for personality than age! Sometimes you can find a real sweety that is rather big and older. A real young one would need a cage instead of an entire room where he may get lost.
